What Marijuana Shops Should You Visit While In Massachusetts?

Following the legalization of marijuana in 2016, Massachusetts has a thriving cannabis business, with outlets strewn over the state.

Hundreds of cannabis retailers have opened their doors to adult consumers after the debuts of Cultivate in Leicester and New England Treatment Access in Northampton in November 2018. Since the inaugural recreational marijuana sales, which saw thousands of customers queue for hours, the initial excitement has tapered off.

Adult retail sales surpassed $100 million in less than six months. Sales at dispensaries totaled $420 million in 2019. Retail stores have brought in millions of dollars in tax revenue for the cities and municipalities where they are located.

As more businesses compete for permits, Worcester County has the most approved licenses.

The following is a list of all marijuana retail stores that are currently open in Massachusetts, categorized by county.

Barnstable County is located in the state of Massachusetts.

Curaleaf

Curaleaf’s recreational sales began in Oxford in November 2019. It is the country’s largest marijuana corporation, with operations in 14 states. There is no on-site parking in Provincetown.

Berkshire County is located in the state of Massachusetts.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, around 30 leaders from the hospitality, tourism, and other industries gathered at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort at 37 Corey Road in Hancock, Massachusetts for the event “Cannatourism in the Berkshires – What it Means for Your Business.”

Roots in Berkshire

Berkshire Roots, based in Pittsfield, bills itself as a “vertically integrated seed to sale collocated dispensary” run by locals. They advertise themselves as Berkshire County’s largest cannabis grower. The dispensary sells both recreational and medical marijuana.

This new dispensary in Williamstown launched in April 2019 and offers to assist consumers in achieving their wellness objectives through the use of high-quality cannabis. The business specializes on recreational marijuana and claims it plans to open a cultivation facility and dispensary in Orange.

Temescal Wellness is a wellness center in Temescal, California

Temescal Wellness has three sites in Massachusetts, including a Hudson retail store and a Framingham medical dispensary. The company, which has a cultivation facility in Worcester, claims to place a high priority on patient wellness, product quality, and community outreach in order to educate and teach the public about the proper use of cannabis. Temescal offers a wide range of products, but adds that more concentrates, capsules, and flower strains will be available soon.

Theory of Health and Wellness

The first marijuana retail store in Berkshire County was Theory Wellness. The company has made social justice a priority, creating a program that will provide a zero-interest loan and cannabis inventory on consignment to an economic empowerment entrepreneur. The marijuana is grown at the company’s “in-house state-of-the-art facility” and sold at the Great Barrington location as well as the Bridgewater medical-only location.

Canna Provisions is a cannabis dispensary.

Canna Provisions in Lee is run by a group of people who have previously worked in Colorado and the northeast. According to the company’s website, they represent “cannabis industry specialists and pioneers who wish to build pleasant outposts for locals and visitors.”

Bloom Brothers is a family-owned and operated business

Bloom Brothers were formed by three Berkshire County brothers and distributed cannabis grown and manufactured by Massachusetts-licensed cultivators and manufacturers, according to its website.

The Passing Through

According to The Pass, the dispensary is housed in an “airy, modern barn,” with items from The Pass and its partners.

Northeast Alternatives, Inc. is a company based in New York City.

Northeast Alternatives, based in Fall River, prides itself on being a customer-focused marijuana company that values innovation and community. The Fall River-based company, which started in January 2019, promotes marijuana’s “life-changing effects” through the flower, edibles, concentrates, and topical treatments.

Solar Therapeutics, Inc. is a biotech company based in California.

Solar Therapeutics has a retail location in Somerset, with another in Seekonk on the way. More than 100 parking spaces are available at the Somerset facility. The company wants to reduce its carbon footprint and claims that by owning its microgrid assets, which include solar arrays, battery storage, and cogeneration units, it would be able to offset at least 60% of its carbon emissions.

Hope Heal Health, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people heal.

Hope Heal Health bills itself as a “modern medical marijuana dispensary” that caters to both recreational and medical marijuana users. The dispensary contains elevators and a wheelchair-accessible area.

Group for Alternative Therapies

Alternative Therapies Group was one of the first to enter the Massachusetts marijuana market. It was the state’s first medical dispensary in 2015, the state’s buy weed online in December 2018, and the first retail location in the state’s eastern region.

Apothca

Apothca, a medical and adult-use cannabis business near Lynn, claims its 26-acre growing, extraction, and cooking facility has 50 years of combined experience. The company also operates a recreational dispensary in Eugene, Oregon, as well as a Colombian license for non-psychoactive production (or hemp/CBD).

INSA

This retail shop in Salem is one of several INSA outlets in Massachusetts. The INSA name is “a combination of the cannabis strains indica and sativa,” according to the company’s CEO.

4Front Ventures, a multi-state cannabis operator and retailer, established Mission Dispensary in August 2020 for retail sales in Georgetown.

Valley of Happiness

In August 2020, Happy Valley, a “stone’s throw” from the area’s beaches and lighthouses, opened for adult-use sales.

Patriotic Concerns

On April 2, 2019, Patriot Care began retail operations in Greenfield. The facility is expected to remain in Greenfield for the foreseeable future, and it now offers identical services to the Patriot Care branch in Lowell. Patriot Care was the first to scout the city, according to Mayor William Martin, who was the first customer at the Greenfield business. Greenfield has now approved eight recreational marijuana sales licenses.

INSA

In late 2018, INSA became Western Massachusetts’ second big marijuana store. The name is a “conflation of the cannabis strains indica and sativa,” according to the company’s CEO. Gage Cannabis Company is a cannabis company based in California.

According to the company’s website, Gage Cannabis Company chose a moniker that pays reference to a nickname for cannabis used in the jazz scene in the early 1900s.

Patriotic Concerns

Patriot Care has two retail licenses for storefronts in Greenfield and Lowell, as well as a medical license for its dispensary in Boston, which it opened in 2016. The company claims that its mission is to change people’s perceptions of cannabis, both experienced and new users, and that its stores would provide quality, comfort, and competitive costs.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Cultivate Holdings launched its second store in Framingham. Cultivate, which opened in Leicester in November 2018, was one of the first two stores in Massachusetts to sell recreational marijuana. Customers are asked to make a reservation before visiting the store during the pandemic.

Massachusetts-based Nature’s Remedy, Inc.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Nature’s Remedy opened in Tyngsborough. Millbury also has a location for the corporation.

Temescal Wellness is a wellness center in Temescal, California

Temescal Wellness, with locations in Pittsfield and Hudson, has opened in Framingham for adult use.

The Green Lady Dispensary, Inc. is a cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles, California.

Pure Paradise

Pure Oasis, which opened in the Grove Hall neighborhood of Dorchester on March 9, 2020, was not only Boston’s first recreational marijuana shop, but also the first to open with a license from the Cannabis Control Commission’s economic empowerment program, which was created to assist people who have been disproportionately affected by the war on drugs.

Roots in Berkshire

Berkshire Roots, which already has a branch in Pittsfield, will launch its second adult-use store in East Boston in summer 2020. Online ordering is now available at the store.

Cultivate, the first of many outlets to sell to recreational customers, debuted in Massachusetts on Nov. 20, 2018. On the first day, almost 1,000 clients arrived, many of whom came from all around the state and beyond. The establishment in Leicester grows all of its marijuana flower on-site and offers a wide range of goods.

Chemistry that works

As the city’s first retail marijuana operation, Good Chemistry, a Colorado-based company, opened its doors in Worcester, guaranteeing high-quality cannabis products and co-locating its recreational operation with its existing medicinal dispensary on Harrison Street.

Nature’s Cure

Nature’s Remedy launched in Millbury on Sept. 27, the same week that Governor Charlie Baker issued a temporary ban on the sale of vaping products. The company offers a full range of cannabis products, including flower, edibles, topicals, and other cannabis-related items, and plans to operate a second adult-use dispensary in Tyngsborough in early 2020.

Medicinals from Sanctuary

Sanctuary Medicinals, which specializes in cultivating and selling high-quality marijuana, just launched a retail location in Gardner. The company is sowing seeds across southern New England, with three more medical dispensaries set to open this year in Danvers, Woburn, and Conway, New Hampshire, as well as another retail location in Brookline. In Plymouth, Sanctuary Medicinals already has a medical dispensary.
