While campaigning for the votes of Pennsylvanians, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) made a rather tasteless comment about the state’s struggling Americans. He said, ” So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them…” Basically, non-Ivy League educated, non-rich, and non-enlightened individuals have nothing better to do than grip their crutches when times get tough. After all, that is all that religion and guns are, right? Barack Obama never clings to his crutches; he’s too good for God and guns. Anyways, sarcasm aside, the “bitter people” of Pennsylvania prevailed, and Sen. Obama ended up losing the highly contested state to Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) during the state’s primary.
