Dear Madam:
I was first surprised, then elated, and subsequently enlightened, after reading about Anish K. Mitra’s discovery of an egotistical politician. Barack Obama is no doubt the first politician ever who, to quote Mr. Mitra, “is primarily driven by an over-inflated ego.” This is a discovery of the highest magnitude, one which will surely rank Mr. Mitra among Einstein and Galileo in the annals of history. I have express mailed the article to the Nobel Committee, the White House, and the Vatican, post-haste.
With gratitude,
Devin D. Gould ‘10
P.S. Since we now know about Senator Obama’s huge ego and his apparent desire to enlarge the government, we can conveniently ignore how eight years of Bush and five years of a Republican-controlled Congress doubled our national debt, grew federal spending by 60%, and passed an irresponsible half-trillion dollar prescription drug boondoggle in 2003. We can forget the fact that the Bush administration issues signing statements contradicting the clear intention of the law and ignores congressional subpoenas. Call me a strict constructionist if you will, but I believe it is the Bush White House that has “enlarged, empowered, and expanded the federal government” with total disregard to the Constitution by arguing, without merit, that the President has unlimited power by virtue of his status as Commander-in-Chief. And where was Mr. Mitra? He wrote an article for the Spectator titled “Make Noise, We’re Almost Fiscally Sound” in November 2006, defending the Bush administration’s fiscal prudence, economic plan, and low unemployment numbers. Oops.
