John Murtha

John Murtha has certainly earned his reputation as an impulsive creature who frequently speaks, publicly no less, before he thinks. His many ragings over the conflict in Iraq are just one example. Think back to his rant about John McCain’s appearance on The Daly Show, in which the Senator joked about putting an IED under John Daly’s desk. But, not being a one-hit wonder in the lunatic-statement department, Murtha was at it again in his recent remarks about voters in the western Pennsylvania region, including (one assumes) his own constituents. Murtha claimed that Barack Obama would have some trouble winning that area of the state, because “There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area.” I suppose that the secret racist feelings of those voters were ingeniously masked by the actions of their ancestors, who took up arms on the side of the North, in the Civil War, in order to rid this country of the evil of slavery. The silver lining? At least Murtha can now no longer claim to be a total demagogue.
